Abstract

The rapid changing e-commerce development of China in the recent years is challenging the value of the Hong Kong traditional logistics operation management that has been very successful for the past few decades. The old school type of technology could no longer be the solution of coping with the vibrant market demand. The application of AI, AR, IoT, big data, unmanned vehicle, retail store and warehouse brings to the logistics industry a brand new operational concept. Logistics operation is no more a physical movement of goods among B2B and B2C but rather a smart technology based network and value chain. The aging population is another motive for advancing technology to improve operation efficiency. By adopting disruptive technology, operation management requires a new set of skill. Managers of 21st century will be facing a completely new phenomenon. The success of implementing and managing technology in operation will be the key to survive and to sustain the business.
